Stock your babies medicine cabinet

When you have a newborn or infant who is sick, the last thing you want to hear from your spouse is that you don't have any teething tablets or you just ran out of infant Advil. Making sure that you are all stocked up before you bring your little one home can make a huge difference when they are coughing or have a fever or stuffy nose. Please remember to consult your child's pediatrician before giving any medication to your child, and always use the recommended dosage from your doctor as well.

The perfect baby first aid kit

I received this as a gift at my baby shower, and I am so thankful that I registered for it!  I never thought I would need nail clippers and nail files so quickly after my daughter was born.  We have also used the nasal aspirator and digital thermometer when she got sick.  Its been so useful!  You never know when you are going to need the stuff in this kit, but I can assure you, you will be glad you had it on hand!

Sooth your teething baby

When your baby is teething, sometimes you can use an ibuprofen to help the swelling of the gums, and that will relieve some of the pain that they are in.  I usually give it only at night, after I have tried the tablets, earlier in the day.  It has helped my daughter sleep through the night, where she wouldn't have because of the teething.

Help fight allergies for your kids

We all hate to see our kids suffer, especially when its something from allergies.  Using an allergy medicine can really help clear up that runny nose, or the sneezing that is caused by extra pollen, grass, or anything else thats out there.  Its always helpful to have this on hand rather than have to rush to the store to get some when your child is miserable.

How to reduce your child's fever

The first thing that you should use if your child has a fever is acetaminophen.  It will help reduce the fever, and help calm the baby and possibly allow your baby to go to sleep - which means that you can get some sleep as well.

Get rid of that baby cold - fast!

When my little girl got a cold, everyone told me to get this stuff - its like gold.  I rubbed it on her chest, back, shoulders, and the bottoms of her feet.  I put her in a onesie, and socks, and put her to bed.  It started helping within 15 minutes after putting it on her!  Her runny nose was already improving, and her breathing was already improving.  Now I have a few jars of this in my home, just in case I need it again.

Clear a stuffy nose

When babies have stuffy noses or are starting to get a cough, its important to catch the cold before it gets bad.  Adding medicine to your humidifier that is meant for steaming can really make a big difference.

Find out your baby's temperature

Having a few simple thermometers around the house is a really good and safe idea.  That way when you suspect that your baby might have a fever, you can easily grab one and check.  I keep one in the diaper bag, and one on each level of my home.

Calm your baby's tummy with gripe water

Having a colicky baby is the worst.  And the worst part about it is that there are only a few things that can help.  We found this to be one of them for our daughter.  All babies are different and will respond differently to products and methods.   Consult with your Pediatrician before giving any medicine to your child.

Help clear your baby's stuffy nose

When my daughter got sick at 5 months old, I panicked.  She was having trouble breathing through her nose, and we were nursing so it was a disaster.  Our Pediatrician told us to get this stuff - you spray it up their nose and it helps clear it up!  The babies don't like it, but it works!  Consult with your Pediatrician before giving any medicine to your child.

Sooth your baby's teething gums

I have been using these from the beginning with my daughter.  They are magic.  I give her 3 tablets (one at a time) and then she is good for a while.  She usually goes to sleep with no problem after giving them to her - if she has been fussy from teething.   Consult with your Pediatrician before giving any medicine to your child.

Use teething gel on your baby's gums

Teething babies can be hard to handle when they are super fussy.  Using Homeopathic teething gel is one way that you can try and help alleviate the pain for them.  Consult with your Pediatrician before giving any medicine to your child.

Use teething swabs when on the go

When my daughter is teething - its horrible.  Especially if we are traveling.  So I always keep these in my diaper bag and a few packs at home.  They are very easy to apply to the gums, and I think they start working right away.  I apply it to the front and the back of the area that I think (or know) is teething.

Make sure to use the baby safe cotton swabs

When using q-tips with babies, make sure its the baby safe ones - they have a small tip, but then get larger so that they don't puncture the ear drum when inserted into their ear.  I have also noticed that these absorb more of the liquid that you are putting them into, so thats a bonus (especially if you are dealing with thrush in the mouth and applying a topical cream).

Use baby safe cotton balls

These cotton balls are perfect for cleaning the belly button of your newborn, or wiping down their ears.
