Lots of natural bodybuilders eat flaxseed because it contains all sorts of healthy components. The primary ones are:
- Omega-3 essential fatty acids, these are "good" fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects and need to be consumed along with traditional fats
- Lignans: have antioxidant qualities, reduce plaque buildup, reduce inflamation, improve blood sugar response. Flaxseed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods.
- Fiber. Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble types to help move along with all that extra food you are eating.
It has a nice nutty flavor that can easily be added to shakes and cereals. The many benefits will help offset all the strain you are placing on your body. Eat flax seeds!
